I was born and raised in Michigan (yes, I hold up my hand and use it as a map).  I obtained my Bachelor’s degree in Communication Disorders from Central Michigan University.  I had plans of becoming a Speech-Language Pathologist, but then discovered Deaf Education.  I received my Master’s in Deaf Education from Washington University in St.Louis School of Medicine.  I accepted a job in the auditory-oral center program at Maple Grove in the fall of 2011, and I’ve been here ever since! The students, families, staff and community are what makes this place feel like a second home. A fun fact about me is I have two daughters who were born during the pandemic; Adalyn & Emelia.  I love being a mom!  This year I am excited to continue to build relationships with my students and their families.

I was born in Lakewood, and graduated from South High in Denver.  I went to University of Colorado for an undergraduate degree  in Speech Pathology, and then to the Peace Corps to find out if I really wanted to be a speech therapist. Luckily Peace Corps Ecuador gave me a great opportunity to work with deaf students, and when I returned to graduate school (in Tucson AZ) I specialized in speech therapy for deaf/hard-of-hearing students. I’ve been fortunate to work with students with hearing loss throughout my career, as well as with other students with speech/language needs.  I feel so fortunate to be at Maple Grove this year, and look forward to working with our amazing students, in collaboration with our great teaching staff!

I was born in Pennsylvania and grew up in the Northeast.  I graduated with an Elementary teaching degree with a concentration in the Creative Arts from Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio.  I taught in Pennsylvania, Texas and Alaska before moving here to Colorado.  My husband and I raised our two girls in Golden and have loved living with the mountains in our backyard.  We are drawn to the outdoors and enjoy hiking, skiing, and discovering new adventures.  I have always loved working with kids and I developed an after school art program called Golden Young at Art, where I enjoyed teaching elementary students a seasonal-based art enrichment program for fifteen years.  Baking is another passion of mine and for the past three years I had a small business called Soozy’s Sweets.  I baked sweets of every sort, had an online storefront that advertised seasonal sweets and custom orders, and delivered home baked goods to local customers.  This is my first year as Para Educator at Maple Grove. I feel fortunate to be a part of the great Grizzly teaching team at Maple Grove and look forward to a year of learning and discovering!
