Robotics Club

We are pleased to announce Maple Grove's first competitive VEX IQ robotics club! We will be meeting once a week to study, design, build, program and test robots which will then be taken to tournaments within Jeffco. VEX IQ is a sophisticated robotics platform, and each year a different challenge is presented for competition. Students ranging from 3rd to 5th grade operate in teams of 2 or 3 and must develop keen teamwork skills to collaboratively bring their design from concept to reality within a short period of time.VEX IQ Clawbot

This year's challenged is named Squared Away and involves manipulation of objects on a 4'x8' playing field. Teams will be paired randomly to work together in each match. A single match will last only 60 seconds, and the teams try to score as many points as possible in that time. Qualifying teams will go on to a district final event in March.

Robotics Playing Field

Most matches involve remote control of the robot, but there is a programming challenge as well where teams can have their programmed robot try to beat the challenge autonomously.

Besides the matches, teams will also be judged for awards based on things like the design of their robot, the quality of an "Engineer's Notebook" they will turn in, and their overall performance on the field.

Our teams will participate in two qualifying events, one in December and the other in January.

Please email Mr. Walker with any questions regarding the robotics club.
